Conclusion
The project dealt with the techniques for steganography and watermarking as
related to image science
A number of techniques spanning a wide area was investigated and implemented
wherever possible. It is clear that this is a fascinating inter-disciplinary
field which is extremely relevant especially in the current internetworked age
where information transfer is at an all-time high and copyright enforcement, piracy,
digital rights management are the buzzwords of the day.
It is also my belief that this project reiterated the fundamentals that were thought
in the course about the limits of our human visual system and also how important
part the statistical properties of an image are. Also the amount of data for images
and video are so large that these are ideal mediums for data hiding. All these points
were explored in this project
Specifically speaking, the spread-spectrum method of watermarking provide quite
an effective against transformations. The simple LSB technique was also surprising
effective.
The amount of literature on this subject is huge and staggering, especially
being cross-disciplinary to mathematicians, cryptographers, vision scientists,
network engineers.
