The light efficiency of white LEDs is about the same, or a little less then that of incandescent lights. However, they are far less efficient then flourescent lights. Additionally, the total amout of light that you could get out of a single 5mm Nichia white LED is only about 2-3 lumens at best. In order to get more light, LEDs must be used in an array. As a result, using LEDs to light a whole room would be very inefficient and require a lot of LEDs. However, in certain applications, using LEDs are a good choice...
