Julesz's Conjecture awakened the interest to study either global or local statistics is the basic element of texture discrimination. Though his conjecture have been disproved, his arguments about textons, the local features of texture did appear to be correct.
Yellott argued that the triple correlation uniqueness is very important in practical finite texture images and provided deterministic counter examples to Julesz's conjecture.
Knowing the importance of the relational information dipole histogram, Chubb and Yellott provided the proof of the uniqueness of the dipole histogram and established a strong basis for future dipole histogram research.
