Images play a big role on the intenet. Actually the inclusion of an image tag in HTML was the major reason behind the success of NCSA Mosaic Web browser and the entire explosion of the World Wide Web.

However, as more and more high resolution images, such as digitally archived paintings, are placed on the web, new problems arise, which is the other WWW phenomenon --- "World Wide Wait".
