The images used to test the camera's color matching functions were rectangular matte paper swatches of uniform color produced by the Color-Aid Corp. Nineteen of the samples made up the gray scale measurements; they ranged from white to black. The other 96 samples were of differing colors.
The swatches used were chosen arbitrarily from the purchased set. All of the swatches were numbered, and the odd ones were then chosen as samples. The only exceptions were for scratched or otherwise damaged samples, in which case the even numbered sample immediately previous to the damaged one was used as a replacement. This selection process attempted to represent a good sampling of hues and intensities from the color spectrum.
